I was wondering if anyone can help. I have an eight year old son who can't ride a bike!! It's not his fault growing up in HK in an appartment without any where to ride one. I want to teach him . Please does anyone know of good places to ride bikes without having to go to the outlying islands???

abiagil10, where are you located? Come up to Tai Po where you can rent bikes for $20-30 for the whole day and there are bike paths all the way from Shatin to Tai Mei Tuk. Try the Tai Po Waterfront Park - good open spaces and bike paths. Have fun!

you could try the park (the first one) on mount austin road. the top park is also a good one for a learner biker. Flat grass and open spaces (and few trees! to run into). Its past the peak tower.

I wouldn't necessarily recommend Tai Po for teaching a child to ride. Especially on a Sunday, the bike path is crowded with a mixture of serious cyclists (going fast) and recreational cyclists, many of whom a) ride in groups, b) have little idea of how to steer or brake, and c) tend to stop in the middle of the path without warning. In other words, it's quite dangerous unless you have your wits about you. Tai Po Waterfront Park doesn't have the fast cyclists, but is crowded with other people learning how to ride or teaching their children. If you do want to come up here, I would recommend first thing in the morning as there are fewer people out then. On a Sunday it's quite crowded by 11:00.

You could try to road down to the Cheshire Home in Chung Hom Kok which is flat and hardly any traffic as it is a dead-end road. My children learned to ride there. Marilyn - CAB 28155444

i just noticed a sign today on bowen road for the green lane sitting out area. Not sure if bikes are allowed there, but its a flat grassy area. Its only about 10 minutes from the end of bowen rd stubbs rd side.
