This is what one man in the UK did, but I'm not suggesting you try it here...

UPI/ Accused speeder too much trouble to try

NORWICH, England, May 12 (UPI) -- An accused speeder in Britain, determined to keep his driving record clean, won in court when a prosecutor said it would be too expensive to try the case.

Michael Ives challenged the speed cameras that police said caught him doing 37 mph in a 30 mph zone, The Times of London reported.

Ives learned that the cameras are only considered accurate up to 109 yards, but one of the photos used to determine his speed was taken from 260 yards.

Ives pleaded not guilty in Norwich Crown Court.

"Here was a man who was challenging everything and we were going to have to get witnesses in from all over the country," said prosecutor Peter Tidey. As far as I'm concerned, Mr. Ives is the fortunate one, and if it was a case that people thought that they would challenge things and would just get off with it, the public interest would soon demand a different reaction."

Ives said that after 45 years of driving he wanted to keep points off his license.

Once 15 points are accumulated in respect of offences which were committed within a two-year period, the driver is liable to disqualification under s.8 of the RT(DOP). Unless there is a special reason justifying making no order for disqualification, the term of disqualification is three months.
