I would wait until there are more teeth to worry about. And DO make sure you have a dentist who is good with kids!!!!!!! So many kids have been traumatized by dentists who didn't care how they treated little ones.

I discussed it with my dentist and he said it is best to start taking them when they have a few teeth, just to get used to the dental office laying in a chair and opening the mouth. No work being done.

hi jazzy,

thanks for your reply. that's what i read too - that the idea is to get them used to the dentist...

i think i will go and source for a suitable pediatric dentist and see how that goes.

WM,

I plan to take my daughter with me next time I go (few months). She is 22 months old and has 8 tetth. I just started her with learning to brush and she loves it. At first it was once a dsy and now twice a day. It is in our daily routine.

At first, she didn't like to open her mouth for you to look into and the teeth brushing has helped. So in a couple months a visit to the dentist should be a little easier for her. And she won't always relate the dentist to a bad thing

I just took my son for his first trip to the dentist - he turned 4 in Feb. He had a great time on the chair and was very cooperative for the check-up.

I took my son for his first dental checkup when he was 17 months old. At the time, the dentist told me that he generally recommends that the first visit be scheduled soon after babies turn one.
