We're a family of 3 adults (including helper) and 2 kids aged 2 and 4. Based in HK, looking for a kid-friendly holiday in Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam or Bali, for 3 WEEKS. Preferred accomodation would be a cheap, clean, air-conditioned cottage/ house with a kitchenette and washing machine. We were thinking a week in one destination (e.g. Thailand - Chiang Mai, Phuket or Vietnam - Hanoi, beach, Ho Chi Minh)I checked out Club Med Phuket, but for 21 days it's over HKD 100,000. Whew!!
Anyone done this kind of thing before? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
Razeena

I have heard of people doing this, such as other expats switch / swap houses to cut down on cost - check out:

Also, a gem that we found was in Vietnam a small island called Con Dao - about a 1 hr flight from HCM City and it is super family friendly - very quite and place where kids can ride bikes, roller skate and swim, build sand castles. Although it is not a resort - there are some bed and breakfasts with cottages on the island.
We were there in Sept. 2006 and simply loved it as it was such a different pace the hustle and bustle of HK and other fast pace developing cities of Asia.

Razeena, you can book very nice holiday condos and villas on www.vacationvillas.net and ownersdirect.co.uk for a reasonable price. These give you more space than a hotel room, and are a lot cheaper and much more flexible in terms of eating in/out. A lot of these units (especially the ones in Asia) are part of a resort complex, so the facilities are usually pretty good. I have tried them before, and now we hardly stay at hotels if the trip is over 5 days.
