Hi,
I run a small company that sells hardware and software to schools in the region. I am based in Hong Kong. I source some product locally but a lot of what I sell is shipped to me ex the UK. I recently had a package sent that was about the size of a large laptop bag and weighed less than 2kg. The items had a value of around HK$15000. The shipping cost for this item came to HK$1200 which I thought was quite excessive. It certainly killed my margin!
Does anyone have answers to making small orders like this logistically more cost effective?

UPS was the company that the UK people shipped it with. Can you suggest others between the UK (Belfast) and here?

you can lower the shipping cost if one half of the value will be put on UPS label and ship it through not expedited. Try FedEx or DHL. I am working in a USA based company and sometimes we're shipping large packages to UK via FedEx and DHL usually costs at about 50+ USD, shipped from our Asian hub, subic bay freeport,Philippines.

Vice versa, maybe it will cost lower if the company from UK will ship it thru DHL or FedEX to Asia. Try to talk to company sending you the items that they will lower the declared value of the item it helps lower the shipping/handling cost.

Thanks Witty Han. I will communicate this back to the UK Company. I think US$50 is much more reasonable.
