Using Creatine

ORIGINAL POST

Creatine is generally taken increase the performance in activities that require quick bursts of energy and supposedly aids recovery faster after expending bursts of energy. It should be taken in cycles (creatine loading and maintenance cycles) in two or three doses a day, rather then before workouts

Effects normally become evident pretty rapidly (especially during the first couple of cycles).

Creatine is relatively harmless, but like all supplements should not be taken in an uninformed manner – there are many ways to learn: Check with your physician, read the instructions, talk to people who have experience, search the internet…

hi shane,

i've taken creatine on and off for years and to be honest i never really noticed any particular strength or energy gains from it. I did notice an increase in size but a lot of it is water retention, you might notice you become more thirsty when you take it. The best supplement i ever took was something i found at GNC called V12. It came in a powder and took it twice a day mixed with water. It gave me amazing energy for workouts and all i had to do was eat properly to gain muscle, but now GNC dont stock it and im trying to find out if i can buy it mail order.

Some people get great results from creatine though, you may as well continue loading and then maintenance for the 2-3 month cycle, and if i find this V12 stuff again I'll PM you.

cheers

macka> San V-12 Turbo is listed on the website of Nature's Village. Three flavours. Perhaps give a branch a phone call to see if stock is available.

Creatine works if you use it as plan and on a consistant basis. Creatine will give you extra burst of energy but you also have to push yourself to do heavier weight and more reps. If you maintain the same workout you have been doing prior to take the supplement chances are you will not see that big of result. was religiously on that stuff during my collegiate althletic days (as it was the only NCAA approved stuff on the market) and it got me stronger and faster. However if you plan to get ripped and cut it's not the stuff for you as creatine results is bulk due to water retuntion in your muscles. However once I got off the stuff I seemed more cut and ripped and not as bulky but didn't have the extra burst of energy to do that extra rep or lift the extra weight. Best result is work out with a spotter to help you with maximize that extra burst.

To bulk up: eat 6 good meals with protein and carbs. Make sure you have surplus calories; plenty of brown carbs. Make sure you have at least 1.5g / lb of protein a day.

Train in reps of 10, no lesser than 6. Get good rest as you grow when you rest. Have a good post wrkout and prewrk out meal. Post workout have a glucose drink ASAP, then a bit later a 50g protien shake, then Plenty of white carbs...the lower the G.I. the better. Post work out stick to stuff like pasta, rice, potatoes..all white of course plus some protein i.e. chicken...leave the veg to another meal.

Train HARD for an hour at max.

Then diet is everything!

Sorry for the non organised info...its late

So....any more Body builders here?

Try "No-Explode" you can get tubs of it from the health shop on Lyndhurst. Comes in a powder form, and you simply put a scoop or two into your bottle of water. After 30 mins of taking it, you just cant wait to get into the gym.

When you do an hour of weight training properly, your body should be too exhausted for cardio at the end. Plus, at that stage your muscles will be completely depleted of glycogen. If you do not replenish your glycogen stores, your body will now start burning your muscles. After your workout, you have a very small window of opportunity to drive your body into an anabolic state, for maximal muscle growth.

Hi Shane,

I am a track runner and have used creatine during my speed training. It will help you with getting that extra burst of muscle power when lifting or any burst of activity up to 20 seconds in duration. Remember to mix it immediately before drinking with a high carb drink(grape juice, oj, or apple juice ) otherwise it will break down and then it is useless. Drink it before your workout.

And as someone mentioned above, drink a lot of water as creatine causes water from your body to migrate to your muscles. That is what gives some the pumped up sensation.

hope this helps a bit more

Hi Shane,

Actually, if you mix creatine with anything other than a high carb fluid, you won't get all of its benefits. And, you shouldn't taste creatine once it has dissolved. Maybe try orange juice? or any other juice if you have trouble with grape and apple. I have always been told by my coaches (weight training as well as running coach) that for optimal results creatine must be mixed immediately before ingestion and it is best absorbed when mixed with juice.

good luck!

elizabeth
