Does anyone know where to find sugar syrup for making c*cktails. I've looked in Wellcome, Taste and Watsons Wines. Any suggestions, or am I looking in the wrong sections in the supermarket?

Not sure I have ever seen it for sale except perhaps for commercial bars. Make it yourself and if it crystalises over time just heat it up again. Otherwise known as Gomme and you can use 1:1 ratio of sugar to water also. You will have made it in the time it takes to call the lift to go shopping!
Simple Syrup Recipe
Put one cup of water in a small saucepan.
Add two cups of sugar.
Heat to a boil while stirring.
Reduce heat and continue to stir until the sugar dissolves.
Cool to room temperature.
Find a clean container that will hold at least a cup and a half.
Using a funnel, pour liquid into container.
Seal and store in refrigerator indefinitely.
Use whenever a recipe calls for simple sugar or simple syrup.

Thanks for that! I just assumed you could buy it as it is in the recipes in my c*cktail book but it is not mentioned how to make it.
Do you know what would be considered the standard concentration for making c*cktails? 1:1 or 1:2

I like the nice thick one for making short drinks like daquiris or the like so that you don't water down the drink especially if you are fitting it into a standard martini glass - but the thinner one is nicer if you are putting it in a jug for people to sweeten their own drinks like our family favourite of fresh lime sodas - where it is a tall drink and the kids are pretty heavy handed! I am not sure it really matters as you just keep tasting it until it seems right and after a while everyhting tastes super! Will also depend on sweetness of other fruits and liquers you are adding.
