Prices are competitive at Fortress + if something goes wrong with the camera you can be more confident of after sales support...

I've bought 3 digital cameras at Fortress over the last 5 years. Never had a problem, even when I had to go back with one of them to have one of the features explained to me slowly. I won't go anywhere else, although there are others who highly recommend a particular shop in Stanley Street, Central.

I go to Wanchai Computer Center, there is shop just outside on the ground floor to the left beside the McD's, have some of the best prices, if you want international warranty. I go upstairs first and window shop for price comparisons. Unless you want store or local warranty, I haven't found better.

Frankly, I would NOT recommend Fortress for cameras unless you are really pushed for time and it's the only place open.
They are OK but in my experience don't have the expertise or ability to really 'help' you understand what the difference is between models, or to make sure you buy what's right for you. You need to know before you get there what you are looking for.
At the very least, I've found that the Broadway store in Times Square seems to have knowledgeable staff at the camera counter. Much moreso than Fortress.
There are plenty of shops in HK where you can get that sort of advice AND a good price without needing to haggle AND don't have to buy some iffy grey market import with no warranty. Check the following: along Stanley Street in Central (I like Chung Pui (45 Stanley St, the one with the big Nikon sign outside) but there are also several others on the same street; or Cheer Power (now called Citicall) - which is a few blocks away from Stanley St on Queen Victoria Street; or in Mongkok there are two stores with very good reputations for prices/knowledge - Man Shing and Wing Shing. You can google their addresses.
Hope that helps.

We have been buying from Sammy for quite a few years. He is very good with guidance on what you need, doesn't oversell and is really good with after sales service.
Have taken friends there when passing through HK and no one has reported any negatives in fact have bought other electronic equipemnt from him on return trips.
He is at Kam Fai, Shop 1D, 1 Mody Road, TST. just around the corner from Holiday Inn, Golden Mile (on Nathan Rod).

I understand that Fortress may not be the best place to get advice but, if you do know what you want, it may be worth a try. I knew exactly what I wanted for my daughter's birthday present - a Nikon Coolpix L10, which seems a great first camera, good quality and very simple to use - and found it at Fortress for a competitive price. I can't comment on the after sales service and hope I won't need to test it.

I like the people, especially Paul Chan, at Chung Pui Photo, 44 Stanley. I am using a Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX1 (which has a Leica lense) and am pretty happy with it.
