Breast Pumps

Hello girls

I've only just discovered this forum and have been reading through the threads and i think its great, I see a lot of honest opinions.

I no longer live in China and have just moved to Bangkok but this forum seems to be the mother-ship of all Mother-Baby advice.

So my question is this -

Which breast pump - brand, model etc. would you recommend? Having not 'popped' yet I'm not sure how often I will be expressing but i need to be ready. Looking it up on the internet it seems that the difference between the pumps is based on the frequency of usage. I'd like to assume that i will use it frequently.

Also, where in Hong Kong are these breast pumps available?

Thank you heaps!

If you want to rent (check with the hospital in Bangkok to see if they do this) - Medela Symphony is really amazing.

But it is not easy to travel with.

So if you will travel or pump in different locations, the Medela Pump In Style Advanced, but you need to order from the USA (search this forum for a link to the site).

They are both the exact same concept, and similar strength, they have a 2 minute 'warm up' where it gently pumps then it gets stronger, which mimics what the baby actually does, and when you pump both sides at once (which gives you more) it is faster, easier and more comfy than most other pumps - as well as giving you more milk.

good luck!!

I may have seen the Medela Pump in Style Advanced at the Bumps to Babes Store at Pedder Street. Its at the 5th floor on the building next to Shanghai Tang

Really? I didn't see the new model advanced one that has the dual action - cool if they finally have it here.

you might want to price it out though, as it might be cheaper to order from USA....

Thanks for the advice girls. I'm pretty sure it is cheaper in the US than here. The prices of all the baby stuff is just off the charts...things that are just 50$ in the US are about 150$ here. So I'm going to give myself enough time to get people to bring it over for me.

I'll also be in HK in July so i might have a look at the prices there.

we just moved from bangkok.

ring up bnh hospital's nursery dept. they have the number for 2 rental companies- medela and spectra (korean i think). they're about the same price so medela is the better choice. i rented it only for a month as we were moving. it cost only about 2000B and it gets cheaper if you sign a longer contract.

it's an idea to arrange to rent for a month first then see how often you'll end up needing it later before you sign a longer contract or buy one.

yes, anything not produced in the kingdom is crazily priced up.. and choices quite limited. do as much shopping when overseas.

Wait until baby is over a month old to let your milk supply be established, try to avoid nipple confusion and let yourself get to know your baby better.

Ruth, Thanks for your advice. I think i will wait for a month. You are right, I need to get to know my baby first.

Mommybee, I'll call BNH and get that information. Thanks
