Renting an apt w/o employer guarantee

A Friend and her hubby are moving here from the US and want to start a business. They have their own money in the bank, obviously. Is there any chance of them being able to rent an apartment without the usual statement of employment from a their employer (which of course they dont have)? Any suggestions on how they can go about doing this?

Since most landlords would be a bit hesitant to lease to anyone w/o a stable income source, my suggestion is to provide proof of $$$ in bank with offer to pay more than standard 1st and last 2 month deposit?

I beg to differ Indoteak.

We have been renting the past 7 years in two different apartments and have never been asked for proof of $$$. And only every pay the standard two months rent as deposit.

Some landlords don't even ask for proof of employment. Some do, but can be persuaded to go without it if the tenant has their own business. They might ask to see the Business Registration certificate.

I would say it depends on landlord.

I have been asked for letter of proof that I am ably employed by landlords that own buildings. Also have provided nothing at all from individuals.

Thanks very much everyone! looks like private landlords don't ask for company letters and corporate landlords do (my experience anyway). So she'll have to pick the non-picky ones! LOL.

Thanks again!

I find it quite surprising that u lease from large company and they did not require some kind of information that you have a source of income or "something".....been here over 12 yrs and every company has asked for something.

May I know which company you're referring to? I would like ot move there hehehehe....kidding
