I'm useless at maths (can't even work these out on the calculator!)I need the answers to the following:
what's the percentage of 82 out of 100?
4 out of 100?
14 out of 100?
Sorry for being so dumb but my brain cells can't work them out!! Er... the people who kindly give me the answers, would you mind telling me what buttons to press on the calculator. My calc does have a % button. Thanks!

Oh, how embarrassing! I vaguely remember something about the % means out of 100 or something. Thanks HK1. Couldn't concentrate on maths at school cos of the gorgeous teacher!! ha ha!

basically..."out of" means to Divide.
therefore:
1/2 is the same as saying 1 divided by 2 = .5 or 50%

You asked what buttons to press. Actually if you press '82' then '/' (or the traditional dividion sign, depending on your calculator) and then '100' and '=' you'll get an answer that says 0.82. But if you are looking for the true percentage figure you should use the following sequence: '82' then '/' then '100' and then '%' and you'll get an answer that says 82 (which is what I think you are really looking for).

Devon, you're not alone! I was so embarrassed some months back when I realised I couldn't remember how to do some really basic arithmetic and I ended up finding the answer by gatecrashing a website designed for primary school age children. It was brilliant as it explained everything nice and simply for thicko me!
