I will be moving to HK in July from the U.S

I will be looking to find a summer program for my children ages 15(g),12(b) and 10(g). Also any competitive sports programs baseball/soccer

(boy-12 and girl-10)

Hello and congratulations. You will enjoy your time in HK - a vibrant and interesting city. Much different I suspect from the USA - I am Australian. I live on Lantau in Discovery Bay and have a four year old. Just wanted to tell you that meeting people in HK is easy - you and your children wont have any trouble whatsoever. Repulse Bay is lovely - lucky you - you must be excited. Cant really answer any of your questions but just wanted to send out a preliminary welcome and to assure you that it is very friendly here. Many, many expats and mainly English speaking. All the best. Wanna know anything else - drop me a PM or post on xpat. By the way, there are sooooo many products here from the US, but if you have a cream or something else you cant live without, post here and someone will always tell you whether it's available or not - post in "practical'. And then there is always online ordering.. All the best and happy packing... Groan!

Have you enquired at the schools your children will attend? It's possible they will have summer camps.

You can also try the English-speaking Members Department of the YWCA at: http://esmd.ywca.org.hk/

There is a thread on the Practical forum about what a 12 year old can do in the summer:

If you do a search of this forum and the Practical forum, you'll find others asking the same question.

Thank you for your replies. I have applied to: HKIS and SIS schools for my children. I will check out those website mentioned. I have noticed not too many teens around. mostly younger children. my daughter is 15 and pretty shy, so i would like to find out where I can go for her to find a few friends before school starts. any ideas

MAV3, are you joining a club? Most of them run extensive summer camps in various sporting activities etc. for all ages. Swimming, tennis, ice-skating etc. etc. They are opening for bookings around now, so you should have plenty of choice. If you know someone who is a club member, they can also sign you up as a guest. The advantage is that many of the participants continue with these activities when school resumes, so they can get a head start at meeting friends that have similar interests.
