I really wouldn't bother with Cru - have been twice, had dreadful service, food very average. last time ordered calf's liver it came so tough I could not cut it, when I complained to the staff they brought me a steak knife instead of taking it away!! At least they have sense of humor I guess!!

Suem, Cru is on staunton st. If you're walking from the esclators towards sheung wan, it's on the left just past elgin st. You often need a reservation but its one of my favorite sunday afternoon places (sit downstairs with a view of the street). I've never had a problem with the food - always big portions and tasty. Strawberry, I really like Bodega Riojana. It's in Kennedy Town and the tapas are fresh and tasty. Bring your own wine (100$ corking fee) and they have estrella beer there. It's a little pricy but worth a try. 83 Smithfield Road, 2872-8686, closed Monday.

i agree that there is a huge difference between overpriced and expensive. I hate being overcharged for food that is not worth it. But bodega has quality food. I think a 100$ corking fee is a bit ridiculous but still its worth going to and nice to get away from soho pretensiousness

I like Cru as well - never been for dinner but brunch is lovely. Excellent smoothies. Would not recommend sitting upstairs though as they tend to forget about you there.
My picks:
Cru - for brunch (downstairs)
Coyotes - for mexican
Tru
Dragon-i for dim sum on the deck
Havana - great nibbles platter (and 2 for 1 Mondays!)

rge, actually i think i may know which one u are talking about! it's on a hill right? wow i never imagined quality spanish food exists in kennedy town, u think it's authentic and approx how much pp (exclude corking fee)
actually la bodega in LKF also serves decent tapas too, i heard that the tortilla espanola there is homemade..

yes its up the hill. and everything, including the spanish tortilla, is homemade. It's self serve in that you order at the counter from a blackboard menu that changes daily but then everything is brought to you. the tapas range from about 50 to about 100 and about 2 a person is the right quatity (3 of us order 6 tapas plus dessert and we were all full). the bill was about 800$ (including corking fee for one bottle of wine) for the three of us but it would be easy to spend more.

hi Tidings 2. The service at Bodega Riojana is pretty laid back. It's just a small place and both times I've been, there has only been one other couple/group there. It's a great experience of really tasty food and the passion the chef has for great tasting, creative tapas is evident. For dinner, expect to spend 2-3 hours there - a nice night out! You order in the kitchen and the dishes are written on the wall allowing you to discuss your choices with the chef herself.

I really recommend Enoteca and Bacar. Food and service are excellent and always worth it. Cru is ok-ish for lunch but wouldn´t go there for dinner.

I am at Enoteco or Bacar at least once per week. They are so perfect. Kim and Rob, the owners told me just 2 days ago it's because they buy top notch ingredients (good cheese, ripe tomatoes, good oils, etc.) It sure works.

where are Enoteco or Bacar /
Please support our advertisers:
Enoteca is on Elgin St (I think - I get Staunton and Elgin confused) and Bacar is on the escalators next to Subway opposite Pure.
Similar tapas items on both menus but I always liked the tapas items at Enoteca better - pesto chicken risotto balls and fish goujons with spicy mayo - mmm mmm. Could have changed the menu though as has been a while since I was there.
