hi there,
i am 7 weeks pregnant but a spotting incident over the weekend has placed me on bedrest for at least this week with orders to minimise movement and definitely no housework.
i don't have a helper and unfortunately the past weeks of morning sickness means i haven't cooked very much food to store in the freezer for my toddler. supply is running low so he eats some stuff from the freezer, sometimes baked beans and toast, jars and tonight he had some fish fingers with steamed potatoes and peas.
but i am running out of ideas and jar food choices are limited for a 14 month old. i came across some pigeon brand baby food that looks like rice mixtures in a packet that you can heat up. has anyone tried this before and what are your thoughts. also, any other really effortless food ideas? my hubby can cook some stuff during the weekend and friends from babygroup have offered to drop stuff off but other than that, i worry for my toddler's nutrition, especially if my bedrest is extended.
thanks!

oh no WM! I'm so sorry to hear that!
Have they given you progesterone (Urgestan I think) - that is a common practice.
I had spotting - not as early as you - but I had it - and all things came out well...but bedrest until it clears up will be difficult on you to say in the least.
for the practical food thing - we have something similar in seoul -the premade congee sort of thing that is pre done and all you have to do is heat. I used it in emergency situations a few times - and I didn't think it too horrible - so if you have to do that - do it. It's about convenience after all and it's not for the rest of his life.
I'd take help from all sorts of places at this point. ANd if you can, get someone to come in for a few hours each day so you CAN really do bed rest. I was on it for 10 days - and with a kid it was SO HARD. I would lie down on the sofa and try to play with her, but ultimately she would demand something and I would be up and down a lot. so it was hard. Even WITH a helper it was hard - so if you can, get mom over there (I remember she used to be able to come over), people from babygroup - take ALL The help you can - and later you can pay everyone back with a nice lunch or something.
A fast choice - udon noodles, and I always boil an egg, chop in a few veggies (frozen veggie mix just boils up quickly) and if I have some lying around, cooked chicken or shrimp. Daughter feeds herself, slurps the noodle. I just put in half the soup base (less sodium) and let her have fun with it. THis is the speedy method and I don't think it too horrible.
Anything that you can slow cook without having to watch too much is always ideal. Chicken THIGHS are great for this - I do a slow cooking chicken thigh thing that you can serve with brown rice and some veggies. IT requires very little work except dumping things into a pot.
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
1/4 sesame oil
1 Ginger root, peeled and sliced (no need to chop - just for flavoring)
2 garlic cloves (you can just throw them in if you dont' want to chop)
1 onion
(optional - a carrot and a potato)
8-12 chicken thighs
Dump everything together and cook over low heat for 45 minutes until chicken is tender. DONE.
My kids like this "creamy" (fake creamy) pasta dish - cooked pasta with the frozen veggie mix tossed with olive oil and sour cream and butter. it's easy and it's tasty too.
if I can think of any thing super easy - I'll let you know.
Good luck! I'm so sorry to hear about this- it can't be easy.
