Hey,
Has anyone been to the Art Village? I was just wondering how easy it is to get there from Lo Wu. Also, I was hoping to get some sketches made of my old family home - has anyone got anyone the could recommend up there? What are the prices like in general?
Thanks!

Best bet is to walk to the Shangri-La and get a taxi- ask them to write sown Dafen Art Village on a card. Should cost about 80HK and its about a twenty minute drive to a place near Buji. Then they will drop you at a fenced off "Village". Its good fun. We paid 300 HK for framed fake art and 750 for a huge one. There are places that do sketches so just ask around. If you get anything shipped then tell them you will pay the courier company on arrival- we got a bit ripped off on the shipping. Have fun

some friends and I did the YWCA tour to Dafen and is was great as our guide knew everything about it and took us to particular places that she felt were very good. It's around $260, here is the link http://www.esmdywca.org.hk/

Another very easy way to get there is to take the #106 bus right from the outdoor bus staging area (not the one under the building) at Lo Wu City. The bus is $2 or $3 and takes about 25 minutes. You find yourselves in an area of very brightly decorated buildings and that's where to get off. To get back to Lo Wu, take #300 at exactly the same place where you got off. Da Fen itself is, as the others have said, fantastic--how many different ways are there to paint the Mona Lisa--and it's worth going through the main building as well as all around the back streets since each place has its own specialty. Special bonus: framing is so much cheaper there than in HK.

Definitely get the adress written in Chnese to show the taxi driver. You can catch a taxi from directly under the bas station at Lo Wu - follow the signs down the escalator once you clear immigration and come outside. the taxi costs nomore than $40HK usually you can pay in HKD too if you have to. Make sure you have the address written down for LoWu commercial centre or the immigration hall. Sometimes it can be tricky to get back - but they generally understand 'Heung gong' if you get stuck! When you are up there, grab a business card to help you get there easily the next time! Have fun - it really is great!

I agree, costs about $35 - 40. Get an address written in chinese. Taking a taxi from Shangr will see you pay more as they set a "gwillo" price. Look for the brightly coloured buildings and the large statue at the front of a hand holding a paint brush.
