Hi there. I got a three month old puppy a month ago but still unable to house train her. Does anyone know whether there is a dog school in HK I can send her to get trained? Thank you in advance for your help. Jinglin

Is she peeing in the same spot every time? If so, then feed/play with her there because dogs won't eliminate (pee/poop)where they eat/sleep/play etc. Also she has to be taken outside quite often, like every time she wakes up, after she eats or every couple of hours because young puppies can't hold on for very long. Also "google" housetraining puppies. This will give you information on how to tackle the problem.

Hi Jinglin.

We got a puppy from Hong Kong Dog Rescue who was not house trained (and still isn't at times!) I can offer some advice and people to talk to:

You:

Don't shout or hit the puppy if they do it in the worng place. Best thing to do is soak up the wee and put it in the place you want them to go. This helps.

Also, feed twice a day AT EXACTLY the same time each day and then take your pup out for a walk. This helps them. Every time they do something outside reard them with a treat and after a week you will see an improved difference.

Do lock them in say the kitchen or back room (as long as it is ventelated!) at times when you think they want to go. Short bursts like this can help.

The SPCA has dog training that you can attend for general training. We are also talking to Mark, a dog trainer in HK who is very good (feel free to mention me & pads when you speak to him.)

To be honest it takes time and patience but as long as your are consitent you will get there. Please feel free to contact me through my web site if you need anything else: www.alib.co.uk.

Hi.

I have used Mark from wish you were here too. They are based in Sai Kung, but Mark travels for training - so he can come to you and train you & your puppy at your house.

I recommend him too.

What you need to do is catch your pup in the act. If you scold her after the fact she won't understand why you are mad. You need to say something like, "No!" and clap your hands when she is actually peeing and not after, that way she'll associate your reaction to her peeing. She needs to be taken outside (or placed on newspaper) every time she wakes up, after she's eaten and in between. Say every hour or two. If you happen to find she's peed without seeing her do it, just clean it up and don't say anything to the puppy. Make sure she's taken outside a lot.

Hi expat97, I t amzing hopw you manage to train your dog to use a dog tray. Is it the same one as the cat's litter tray? How did you train him? It is definitely very useful when it rains heavily or as you said during the typhoon period. Hope to hear from you soon.
