URGENT!!! - ADSL Threat

I got a call from the "phone company" threatening to cancel my adsl subscription saying my computer either has a virus going to garbage websites and slowing down the entire Adsl network or some other issues. I occasionally download some songs from the net with the computer on all night but other than that I'm not even home use it.


I have the latest Norton Antivirus which scans it every week with no problems. Has anyone heard of this issue? Also another friend of mine in downtown shanghal also got a letter in the mail threatening to do the same if he don't let them install some "program" on his computer. He reformatted his computer and then the threats just "dissappeared". Also the number they left behind is legit - 10000 call back number with a transfer to a 95xxx number.


Anyone know anything please reply. Thanks

r u sure the call or the mail from the ISP . As far as I know the fee for 95xxx number is expensive ,maybe try to find a chinese around you to check it out first!

There are certain viruses that once they get on a machine can "hide" from the resident antivirus programs. If you turn off your machine when not at home, then the potential for a problem for the ISP is only when you are logged on.

uh, has anyone thought of calling the phone company? They should be able to clarify the situation.

I have called them but the problem still not exactly resolved. The number is real. The first time they called since i wasn't home, they said they will call back. SO we see what they going to say.
