Fav Family Meals for Toddlers

Interested to hear your favourite family meal recipes that toddlers can eat too.

I am trying to get my 14 MO interested in eating what the family eats.

I am a self confessed failure in the kitchen so would love to hear your tried and tested recipes!

Thanks!

Thanks Wheelymate.

Are you still spoon feeding these?

If yes - do you give finger foods too?

check out martha stewart's website.

in particular her section on "everyday foods" which will have lots of great simple ideas.

At 14 months, I still think it's too early to expect them to totally self feed - but they should be able to handle toast soldiers, scrambled egg, and whatnot.

I took a more relaxed approach with my second daughter and let her get a lot more messy with her food. She has been self feeding herself for about 2 months (now 15 months) and although the highchair, her hair, her clothes, the floor the kitchen are all a disaster, she has to eat on her own.

SJ,

yes, i am still spoon feeding because even though he knows what a spoon does, he's not able to feed himself the entire meal. but i should really encourage more of that no matter how messy!

but while he's not great with the spoon, he's great with his hands - if i serve him say tuna pasta in a bowl on his tray, he will pick up most of the pasta himself while i try to spoon the sauce into his mouth. and this week i served him fish fingers with peas and steam sweet potatoes. i cut the fish fingers into chunks, the sweet potatoes into strips and he self-fed himself the whole meal.

and when i serve a thick soup, i feed him the soup but there will be a plate of toast for him to self-feed.

as for recipes, if you don't already have some toddler recipes, i would go with hkcc's suggestion of "everyday" dinners and various other recipe websites that you can refer to for simple supper recipes and adjust them according to suit your family's taste.
