I'm interested in getting my hair chemically straightened. I've heard Japanese hair salons do a good job. Any recommendations? Has anyone heard about thermal reconditioning? Is this necessary? Thanks a lot!

Try the Hairdressers on Whyndam Street. Be prepared to spend $$$$ but know you will have just what you are looking for when you leave.

Thanks for your advice! I have Western hair and I have already straightened it. Unfortunately they fried it. My hair is in pretty rough shape and I'm not sure how to fix it. I went back to the salon and they gave me a deep conditioning treatment. That made it better for one day. My hair is so dry and I don't know what to do! Any suggestions?

I get my hair straightened every 6-7 months in Canada using the Japanese thermal straightening method. It is absolutely fabulous and my hair looks amazing. My 16 year old daughter gets hers done as well and because she doesn't use any styling tools on it and has only her natural colour, her hair is like silk.I've been doing mine now for nearly three years and I highly recommend it. I am Western by the way and my hair is coloured blonde. The Thermal system actually changes the chemical structure of the hair so that it becomes straight and completely resists humidity, howver, the new hair which grows in after the procedure has its normal structure and after about six months you can tell that it's time to have the hair redone. It is really important that you go to someone who is very highly skilled, because it is easy to ruin the hair if it is done incorrectly. My daughter's hair was originally done by someone else who told us he was terrific.....well,she wound up with the crown of her head full of bent hair and of course it broke off and then she had spiky hair left on top until it grew out....it was sooooo not cool.So we learned a huge lesson and only go to one fellow. This is a very expensive procedure I need to find someone in HK who is experienced and will give my the excellent results I have learned to expect. Good luck with whatever choice you make.

I've had mine done 5 times over the last 6 years at Salon Espirit and my hair is in perfect condition.

Is there a specific person who does your hair each time?

Yes, they have 2 technologists who only do straightening.

You have to pay a "stylist" to blowdry your hair whether you want it or not (an extra 200.00) but I don't care who does it since it's so straight at first.

I go to another salon to have my hair cut.

I also go to Esprit. I have been there since I landed in HK from Aust 6 years ago. I have very thick hair so straightening is a must for me every few mths. I have always been happy with the results.

hi

can anyone recommend a good hair stylist? it sounds simple but its been difficult to find - i am looking for someone who can do a good-looking bob cut.

since i have naturally wavy asian hair i am also considering having my hair (wholly or partially) straightened. the problem is i have been losing a lot of hair lately. as a result i am not sure if it would be safe for me to do so. any advice would be much appreciated!

espreso, dont worry too much about the hair loss for now as it is very common this time of year and the casue could be 101 things including, diet, stress, medication and environment. It is very common. We usually loose an average of 100 haris a day but sometimes even us humans go through heavy maulting periods.

To cut a bob (a classic cut meant for straight hair) on wavy hair can be tricky. One of the issues here is that with the waves, each time you comb or move the hair some ends will always appear to be out of place. You would also need to blow dry your hair straight to get a true effect of the bob which can be anoying and even with this, in the humidity it may not last that long. Your cut would need to be check both wet and dry to help plus techniques need to be use to cut out any unwanted graduation that can occur.

As an alternative, you could try a graduated bob whcich would work better with your natural waves. It wont give you that solid blunt effect but it will give you a cut you can wear with your natural hair well.

A straightening is an option if you really want that geometric blunt bob but be carefull with this as it can make the hair more like cardboard if not done well. If you choose this option let you stylist know your reasons and ask then to smooth the ends so it has a nicer finish.

Ok, i hope you can get something usefull out of that.
