I live and Work in Hong Kong now. I just received my HK ID Card even though I have only been here one year - Trust me it was NO SMALL FEAT. Now I am wondering about my employer... Do they still need to collect 10% for HK TAX? Do I have to file my own taxes now that I have an ID Card? What is the normal income tax rate for a person making around 350,000-600,000 HKD per year? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

[UPDATE] Please note that fee quotes stated in historic postings may be out-of-date.
You sound a bit confused; EVERYONE who has an employment visa is legally OBLIGED to get an ID Card. Typically that is achieved in a few weeks, NOT one year.
The income tax point is separate from the ID matter; you are liable for HK Tax IF you have income arising from or derived from HK...AND/OR, you are employed to provide services IN Hong Kong.
Many HK residents unwittingly and sometimes even "happily" pay tax to the HK IRD when they do not have to. Conversely, it sounds like you may be the other side of the coin; you may be legally required to pay tax and you have not.
You should get some "customized advice on YOUR situation.
We have an initial interview process that will set you straight.....one hour at our office at a reduced cost of HK$2,500 and you will know EXACTLY where your obligations are.

This week I am being interviewed by SCMP newspaper about the modeling industry in Hong Kong... Can anyone direct me to the specific section of governing laws that pertain to models (entertainers) working in HK for only 3 months out of the calender year>>?? I had a copy of it three years ago but i can't find it now. I think it was called IRC 626 - Entertainers Taxation, but I can't fully recall. Thanks.
