living on an island Langkawi

ORIGINAL POST

Hi everyone

I have applied for a position that is based in Langkawi – Malaysia. I have a wife and young (9month) baby and wanted to know what life is like on an island for a family with one parent working. I also wanted to know what the culture is like. This would be a wonderful opportunity for us to live a good life and expand my career but I am worried how this will effect my family. Any advise would be most welcomed.

Thanks DG

I don't know what it will be like to live in Langkawi but I have been there for holidays - it is lovely.

It is a very laidback place and some expats do set up their own business there (usually F&B).

Not sure what langkawi offers in terms of medical, groceries, etc but it is only 2 hours ferry ride from Penang, a lovely city which will probably offer alot more that your wife and little baby require.

Just my thoughts, i would say the best thing to do is take a trip to langkawi/penang!

Hi Dwayne,

I did a google search for you and I think you should check out a forum on this website ... http://www.langkawi-online.com/

There seem to be some knowledgeable locals who might be able to give you the info you need.

Hi Dwayne,

I am from Malaysia and I have been there. Ya, like Wheelymate mentioned that P.L is very laidback (compare to city life) but a very nice place for family. You can take a ferry to Penang, Kedah/Alor Star or Perlis/kangar from there and these cities offer a lot more than what is in P.L if you want to get some civilisation or a drive to Thai border or even to Ipoh on a long weekend or holiday will do good too.

have a nice day.
