Anyone recommend travel destinations for long weekends (3-4 days)over the summer, specially geared towards families with young children? I have heard good things about Singapore (night safari) and Phuket beaches. Any comments or other suggestions?

night safari, day zoo, bird park, great singapore sale, sentosa....lots to do for 3-4 days!
and in terms of transportation, baby related services (nappy changing rooms, ramps/lifts for prams, etc in malls) widely available. singapore is generally a child-friendly destination, it'll be rare to find a restaurant or decent cafe without a highchair!!

Wheelymate and Dora - Are you talking about Sentosa in Singapore? We were thinking of taking our 8 month old. Can you recommend where we could stay?

xox, I don't like Sentosa very much. We usually stay in town. Depoends on your budget, but we find the Four Seasons and Ritz Carlton great with the children. Even though I prefer the rooms and view from the RC, the location of the FS is better for being right in the middle of things (never have to take a taxi to shops or Anmerican Club, where we meet friends regularly). The children prefer the menu there too. Then again, we all prefer the pool at the RC.

we've stayed in both rasa sentosa and sentosa resort & spa. while rasa sentosa is overall more child-friendly in terms of facilities (baby pool, etc) i prefer the overall finish and sleekness of sentosa resort.....
unless you want a beach holiday in singapore, then go for rasa. but if you just want sentosa, then i say sentosa resort & spa. but if beach is not an issue, then i say go some a more centralised hotel like what dora recommended. if not, the fullerton is also nice!

singapore is a very small country, you can get everywhere via taxi so it doesn't make a difference if you want to stay in town or sentosa. sentosa is just separated by a short car-ride or cable car ride from the main island.
