Hi there!
We love Langkawi and plan to re-visit the place in August for our wedding anniversary....with our would be 17 month toddler.
We are considering:
pelangi beach resort
tanjong rhu resort
We would love to hear from anyone who has stayed in the above with kids and how it was. MayC, if you are reading this, I know you went for Pelangi...how was it....was the room adequate for 2adults/1kid and was there a decent kids menu? Tanjong Rhu looks fab with spacious room for an active toddler but more isolated and so much more expensive!
thanks!

Hi Wheelymate, I would highly recommend Pelangi Beach Resort. It is definitely toddler friendly. Pelangi isn't really a hotel which we find really appealing. They are individual chalets that look like traditional Malay houses. It's fully air-conditioned so you don't need to worry about the heat. The chalets are wonderful. They have a separate area for your suitcases/pantry (like a built in wardrobe). The rooms are huge. The bed is a king size bed and you can definitely fit two adults and a child in it. If you don't want to do that, then you can request for a portable cot. The room is so big that you won't even feel squashed with an additional cot. They have a separate small living area beside your bed with a two seater chair and a long coffee table.
Regarding kids' menu, they do have a good variety of foods for the kids. You could order room service and get the food delivered to you (I find that easiest so I could feed my daughter in peace) or dine at their restaurant. If we were ordering room service, we'd sit at the verandah and feed my daughter there. If we were at the restaurant enjoying their breakfast buffet, she'd be eating a variety of stuff like cereals, chinese congee, soup noodles, fruit, bread, yoghurt etc. There is also a "play area" in the restaurant for the kids. There are blocks for the kids and lots of colouring papers for them. I thought that was good because I could have my breakfast in peace.
The best thing about Pelangi is that all the good restaurants are only 10 minutes away from us. There's a restaurant there called "Orchid Ria". That's highly recommended (the butter king prawns were lovely). In Kuah Town, they have another seafood restaurant that's so cheap and popular but I cannot remember what it's called now. Also recommended.
What we regretted not doing was renting a car. Getting around would have been easier with a car although taxis weren't expensive.
The highlight of our trip was a mangroves tour. We didn't join the tours from the hotel. We went on our own by taxi and hired a boat all to ourselves. That was excellent. They also took us to a fish farm where we had delicious seafood.
The only downside for Pelangi would be that they are renovating the Kids' Club... but you could still go there and see ducks, geese, their tree house etc. They may have already finished with their renovation come August ;-)
If we ever go back to Langkawi, we'd definitely choose Pelangi again.

Hi Wheelymate! I agree, the Pelangi was fantastic for our little one who was 22 months when we went. Rooms are huge, make sure you ask for one with a bath if your little one doesn't like showers (we had to move rooms as our only had a shower)Lots of room for a cot and king size bed.
Food lovely for adults and kids and great pool (well lots of different size pools) we are going back in October!
