I know this might be not appropriate since I am not an xpat, but I need suggestions in emergency.
I am living in U.S. now. I accepted an assistant professor job offer from one of major universities in Hong Kong, and I will assume duty at the end of this year. However, I just found out I am pregnant and the due date will be early Feb. In this situation, what can I do? According to law in Hong Kong, is it possible for them to postpone this offer until next year fall or they will just cancel the offer. I sincerely seek suggestions from you. Please help me based on your knowledge in Hong Kong society. Thanks much!

I suggest telling them once you are 3 months pregnant (and in the 'safe' zone), and asking them if they would be willing to delay your start date. This would allow you time to enjoy the early months of motherhood as well.
In HK, the law is basically stacked against pregnant/new mothers.

Cri and Waffle_hk,
thanks a lot for your helpful comments. I will notify them after 12 weeks to see what they will do.

BTW, I signed the contract with them.

While they can't fire you, they are under no legal obligation to give you paid maternity leave under HK law, as you haven't worked for them long enough by the time you need it.
