I have just completed 6 weeks postpartum and have a 3 year old girl. I was supposed to see my gynae but she is away for two weeks. Wanted to know is it ok if i carry my older child. She is really waiting for the day when i can occasionaly pick her up as I have refrained from doing so from last couple of months. Would appreciate some feedback from your own experinece.

thanks a lot

Koreans believe that you cannot lift up anything heavy for 100 days. (so when your baby reaches 100 days.) My father, an obgyn, says that mild exercise is good, but heavy lifting is not always such a good idea as your uterine muscles and kegels are not that strong.

I will have a almost 4 year old by the time my #3 is born - and my mother and my grandmother have already warned me that I will not be allowed to lift her for 100 days afterwards. (nothing heavier than your newborn they say.) I don't know if it's necessary for 100 days, but I think taking care of your body in the long run is important.

Occasionally picking her up while you sit down and snuggle with her won't be horrible - but I wouldnt' recommend hoisting her up and walking around with her.

is this 100 day rule for both normal and c section. I have had a c section hence was concered about lifting up though some books say after 6 weeks its ok.

for both. IT is a Korean traditional confinement thing though. I had natural for first, and c-section for my second, and it was still 100 days of not lifting.

However, sometimes you HAVE to - and when that was, I just did it.
