Holiday in Hua Hin

ORIGINAL POST

We have booked a week-long stay at a holiday condo in Hua Hin. Can someone give me some info on things to do other than sun and beach? We will do some golfing and hope to get a one-day diving trip in, but will need ideas on other activities.

I read that there is a Premium Outlet shopping mall on the way from Bangkok (I think near Cha Am). Is is worth going?

Every taxi in Hua Hin has photos on the side of all the places they will take you to. If you want to ride elephants, there is an elephant camp just outside Hua Hin. The big waterfall (forget the name) is supposed to be really nice. There is a national park about an hour south that has caves, canoe paddling and other activities.

Worth a trip. There is no big mall to shop in Hua Hin locality.

The outlet is about 10km away from Cha Am with a free shuttle from the market. Check with the hotel conciege whether the shuttle will pick up from the hotel.

I did go to the Premium Outlet when it was newly opened and brands were more limited. It did not have the wide variety of goods as compared to a similar US Premium outlet. There's Levi, XoXo, Nautica etc

I believe that it is operated by a consortium of Thai garment exporters, but could have expanded it's retailers.

Thanks all for your suggestions. I like the idea of the caves. Will certainly also get a massage and spa. Any recommendations? I heard there are other places as good as the hotels' but a lot cheaper.

A few places to visit:

- Pala U waterfall is 7 tiered, about 1 hrs's drive from Hua Hin.

- Maruekatayawan Palace which has the teak pavilion connected to the beach

- The other palace's fabulous garden which may be open to the public when the royal family is away. Both palaces are a few km away from town. Check with the hotel first.

As a precaution: Typically, Thai palace visits require one to wear shirts/pants/skirts or dresses, covered shoes etc. No shorts. Also, bring along your ID.
