Just needed a helping hand of advice pls. Im a teacher and teaching on a one on one basis. Question is, If for example you went to your students home but when you arrived the helper said the boy is still sleeping. And she suddenly tried to wake him up on the spot... And so I told her not to do that bec. the boy will definitely have a moody mood later or tantrums. As the boy is only 3 yrs. old so I've phone his dad and inform the situation and he told me to come back again tom.

Going back tom. is no problem but do I have to charge them also for the time I consume to go there. But didn't have the lesson though?

if it is the first time, i wouldn't - having said that speak to the dad and say that usual practice is that you will charge for the time however since this is the first time, you will not but if it happens again, you will have to charge for the time.

next time forward maybe you can advise future clients that 24 hours notice is required to cancel a session (and that goes for you cancelling a session too), otherwise they will be charged for a session.

also advise the parents to instruct the nanny she needs to wake up the boy 15 minutes BEFORE your arrive for the lesson. That's what I do, I have to wake up my daughter, and give her some water/juice and a cookie to "wake" her up, then her teacher arrives.

I agree no matter what happens at the lesson (it's the lesson slot time you arrive). that's the lesson time you have arranged for the boy, unless of medical emergenices, you should charge for the hour you are there.

well how the parents deal with keeping the appointment with the tutor is up to them. you've carried out your part of the bargain, it is their responsibility to keep their side of the bargain.

if it would help, you can send a reminder sms or email 24 hours ahead something like that

disagree. charge the whole session because you lost income when they cancelled. you could have made another appointment someplace else and earned money teaching. so its not only travel costs that you lost.

I agree, charge for the whole session. But you have to be tough! I used to teach and my intention was always to charge in this kind of situation, but I wasn't tough enough and usually didn't insist on payment. Then, of course, the students and/or their parents just start to take advantage.
