Well, if you have Caller Id, then you can deal with it by calling back.
If you have caller Id, and it's unknown or private number, if your provider is PCCW, you can request that if there are no known number calling in, your landline won't accept calls as such.
I had to do this for our line because our number used to be a fax number of a company that sells timber. we get about 10 fax rings a day... especially in the middle of the night. So annoying. Now, it's better... only abou 1-2 times a month.

Hi katetam,
I actually got the prank called from my cell phone.Do have caller ID.I did tired to called back but the prankster refused to picked up the phone.
I'm using CSL.Is it possible they could help to do with this kind of cases?

CSL have a "block the blocker" service. Well worth it.
It's the main thing I miss since switching to PCCW ..

NEVER call back if it rings once and don't reply to strange messages either.Don't know about cloning but if you call back there is some scam around which takes 50 from your account! Also some of these callers are roaming numbers not in HK which can cost you a fortune if you call back.
I had that happen to me and I ended up changing my number.
If it's a one off more than likely it's a wrong number so don't worry about it.

I got calls from a finance company wanting my domestic helper. They harrassed us, threatened us, called and didn't hang up so our phone was busy. I went to the police who were not the least bit interested in it. I was prepared for them to do anything, come into our home, answer the phone etc...no, not interested...tough luck and a shrug of the shoulders

I read somewhere about this, whether it was an automated call from a sales/spam caller or a recorded message - if you press the pound key several times when they are on the line it apparently disrupts the call recording - also makes you feel better when you've gone to the trouble of answering the phone for no reason!

Any chance this person knows you, or is having an affair with your partner? sorry to be so blunt, but why would someone waste their time on you if they didn't have some connection with you?

Or maybe it's just coincidence that they are 1) sales calls; 2) wrong numbers?
