Am thinking of getting married in the next few months. Love the girl I am going to marry, but at the same time realise that shyte can happen. Happy to share if it all turns custard but want to protect what wealth I have built up so far over the last 20+ years.
I understand pre nuptials are not recognized in Hong Kong. Any advice? e.g. worth seeing a lawyer beforehand? Divorce lawyer?

For wealth built up before marriage, it is not considered matrimonial property. However, you need to have enough proof that you already possess them before marriage. A agreement plus supporting evidence will help. As I am not a family lawyer, you may want to consult a family lawyer from the country where your wealth is in on this.

It is not all that clean cut in Hong Kong. As a starting point, prenuptials are not enforecable in Hong Kong. However, the latest development re: prenuptials is that the divorce courts will take it into consideration. If you intend to live in Hong Kong after your wedding, then it is Hong Kong matrimonial laws that would apply (not the place where your wealth is). I would suggest you do see a family lawyer to discuss this in more detail. There are a couple of vehicles that are commonly used for pre-nuptial planning.

HBT,
Let me know if you want any recommendations on family lawyers. I have worked with a couple and would be able to recommend you to one.
