try extending the "server timeout" limit

"cannot connect to server" = timeout


And remember, to increase the server timeout will used up more bandwith and also make ur server busier. Not advisable.

how reliable is the ISP? Have had similar problems from time to time in VN and switched ISPs to resolve it. The new ISP came up with their own unique, and worse set of problems.

Whzt email program you use?


Have you tried webmail if available from ISP. How many emails are on your account. Have seen this hapenning many times if you have loads of small emails(say like spam) even with "reliable" ISPs like netvigator in Hong Kong or others.


If this is the case, try clearing them in webmail first before you try to download them in your favourite email program.
