My now previous employer has basically said she will not give me a good reference. I have worked there for some time and it was just the 3 of us running the business. They have become bitter as I basically told them i have employment in HK and that I am moving asap but they will, as i have heard cast up any indescretions I may have had over my 10 years with them!! Will this go against my application?

Only if your new employer asks for (or you give him) such reference. But if you've already got the job it sounds like you're already past that point. References are not required for the employer's application for your employment visa. One proviso is in relation to those 'indiscretions' - if they are significant (i.e. illegal activities) and the police hold a record of same then they might come to light anyway...and that could present a problem.

many thanks for the reply. No, nothing at all illegal and I have already supplied new employer in HK with a disclosure certificate stating from the UK government that I have no criminal record or convictions. But wasn't clear if HK imm. required employer refs. many thanks. once they calm down they may produce a reference that reflects my loyalty to them over this past decade!!
