shopping, shopping and more shopping - its the only way to escape the heat...although teen boys are unlikely to be into this...there are desert safari tours where you head out in 4wd and get to ride a camel, camp a night in a 'traditional' arabian camp if you choose (not sure of operating companies, so possibly check the tourist information) - looked a bit cheesy for us, we so did the 4wd-ing on our own through the wadis - im not sure how car hiring goes as we had a company car while we were there, but if you can hire a 4wd, there is plenty of desert to explore which can easily take up a whole day.
Madinat Jumeirah (like some kind of venice of dubai...seriously !!) on the way to Burj Al Arab is a decent place to stop and have a wander(although again, not sure if it would excite teenage boys too much) - but its still a different place to explore.
Other than that, not much else that excited us too much. Wild wadi was a hit, the indoor ski was ok...once it get too busy though, the one ski run they have gets too congested and frustrating..

Lots of water sports (all type of sailing, decent enough snorkelling/diving, windsurfing, kite-sailing, all type of water skiing, wake boarding, knee boarding etc.
In the desert, sand skiing is the hip activity at the moment.

You can also go for the 4x4 rides at the desert, they have a package where u get to ride the 4 wheels vehicle, then surf at the desert, then camel riding, then bbq dinner and watching belly dancing in the middle of the desert...overall, it was great. Love the beautiful view of the whole desert..much better then watching it on TV. The package includes pick-up n drop-off.
Have a good trip!
