Cheap dressmaker in hk???

ORIGINAL POST

Hi,

I urgently need to have a dress copied (for my "rather large" gran) and I've found that the prices in HK are sooooooo expensive! Can anyone recommend an affordable dressmaker?

It's just a plain dress with four buttons, nothing fancy. I've got the material.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

If it is just a copy, and you have all the material - try WorldWide House or Admiratly Centre... they both have tailors that do adjustments, mending and copying - not the best work ever but convenient and reasonable (bargain!).

I'd like to know too. I used a tailor in WW Hse to make a shirt a few years ago and they charged me $500 even though I had the material.

Yikes... I get shirts made including material for 260 in WWH at Jantzen Tailors... and alterations have been much cheaper, but you really have to negotiate with them - my maid still thinks I overpay (she gets them to charge HKD20 for a hem!)

Maybe I will send one of my local staff to have my next blouse made and see what Jantzen charge me !!

Will post later. My employees feel badly that we seem to get over charged in a lot of places here.

David at Jantzen charges the same for everyone but gives a discount to long standing customers or large orders I think. They are great at shirts, but I don't think much of their other items. The best is to get the first shirt fitted perfectly (so you need to go for that!).

It is the 'other' tailors, that are all in that corner of WWH that seem to charge wildly different prices - the were going to charge me 50 for a hem, that my helper got for 20 and even then she felt they were expensive.

Hi, I have a friend by the name of Sally that lives in the Gold Coast that is really great at sewing. She has done a few wedding dress and other garments. If you are interested, email me at: china8asset@yahoo.com And I will contact her about your interest. Tessa

I have been getting hems done in Melbourne Plaza for 40.00 but it's a really good job compared to what I have done in WW Hse usually.
