Visa-free entry to Mongolia for HK ID holders?

Hi everyone,

I've got a HKID card from when I worked there last year, there's no expiry on it -- would it be accepted on the Mongolian border for visa-free entry? Their website says HK ID holders have free entry and no passport is required.

Is this correct? Will they know I was only there for a year and am not a permanent resident? Does it matter!?

I'm getting the train back to Hong Kong and would like to avoid buying a visa in the UK if possible!

Many thanks!!

Tom

I would imagine it means HK perm residents not just foreign HK ID card holders living in HK.

would they know my HK ID is not permanent? unless they can tell from the code, there's nothing to say so on my card...

Cheers...

I would say so mos83 and as you are no longer working in HK and your ex employer is obligated to notify immigration of this your ID card will probably have been cancelled anyway. As far as I’m aware your work visa etc is only for the job you are currently employed to do and is revoked on termination of employment.

Even with a perm HK ID there will be a machine to read it as with passports o ensure security. We now travel in and out of HK with our ID card so we don’t have to have our passport stamped every time but there are still security checks and only authorised people who have up to date visa’s and the right to live in HK can do this.

Bite the bullet and buy a visa

Has anyone actually used their HKID for visa-free entry into Mongolia? Seems really odd that they wouldn't also require a passport.
