Which one do I choose?

we're in a lucky but confusing position - whereby we've been offered places at Kellett and Peak School for my child. My problem is I don't know which one to choose - we're coming over from UK where my child goes to a private Prep School. We're planning to stay for 3 years. So we will be back in the UK in time for starting High School. How do I make my choice I've seen both the schools and both have their different pro's and con's. The most important thing for me is to make sure that my child can get into a good private or grammar school when we return to the UK - Anyone got any advice to give?

One thing to consider is COMMUTE TIME - where will you be living? That would be my deciding factor between the two schools.

Kellett was a bit of a building site the last time I passed.

Peak has a good reputation and good staff (I'm sure Kellett does too!) - they will also have a new learning support unit in place next term.

Just in case your plans do change, Peak can 'guarantee' an ESF secondary place, Kellett cannot.

petals, agree with crj that commute time is important. If you are coming from the UK, you might find ESF class sizes a bit big. They average 30 in a class. The school that we had chosen in London had more like 17-18 children in each class. I think Kellett is about 23, but am happy to be corrected on both. The lack of secondary school at Kellett does become an issue for many people who stay longer than planned though.

Absolutely, the commute time should consider high on your list of priorities. The Peak School has a excellent reputation and as ASWANG says it can guarantee a secondary place. You will be amazed at the number of arriving families who come over just for a two or three years and end up staying far longer and they can not get a secondary place, so that is certainly a factor I would recommend considering. Peak School has 30 children in a class and Kellett between 24 - 26 and as you get higher up the school say year 6 there are much less as most of the children leave either for boarding school or leave to try and get a secondary place. P1 & P2 at all ESF Primary Schools will as of Aug will have a class room teacher and a full time class room assistant where as Kellett has a part time one. Hard descision for you, however you are in a very envious postition as some people do not even have a place at one primary. With both schools you will be sure to gain entry to a good Grammar/Private School in the UK. Good Luck with yur decision.

It may look like a building site at the moment but the new building comes on line in September and the facilities are superb! Looking for a school with a secondary section is important as many people do stay longer than they expected to do and Kellett is now able to offer this option starting with year 7 in September 07 and Year 8 the year after. They are also actively looking for premises to house a full Secondary school. Kellett has a maximum class size of 23 and Reception to P6 all benefit from a classroom assistant. A great choice!

we'll be living in the Peak Area - hence why we applied to Peak School - what is the commute time to Kellett School from the Peak?

Its so hard to choose which one to go for

Kellett feels right because its similar to the school in London but without the open grounds. And I do like Peak because it felt very welcoming, relaxed and loved the setting. should I be worried that they would get lost in a class size of 30?

Both are good schools. My preference would be Peak, purely because of the commute and that Kellett is directly beside a very busy polluted road. It seems that a secondary school does not factor into it for you but i would have to be sure of the results that year 7 & 8 are producing before i would consider secondary at Kellett which would mean waiting a few years.
