My LO will be 10 months next month. She is average in weight and height. We're planning to go to Sydney (9+ hrs flight) and bring her along. The problem is my travel agent told us that we would have to hold her for the entire flight and the airlines won't provide a bassinet for 10 month old babies.
Is that true?

Cathay does provide bassinet...they did for me when my baby was 2 year old...i rem it was a big one coz she did fit in and shes a little over avg in her height so does singapore airlines...not sure whether they have a connection to sydney..
infact last dec when she was 2.5 year old i again requested cathay for bassinet coz she wanted to sleep on me and i was 6 mth pregnant, just to see whether she would be comfortable though i knew she wouldn't fit in..and they did attach the same for me to try out..

hi,
we travelled on qantas to uk from singapore last year when my bub was 5 months old. even then, he just about fitted in the bassinet. unfortunately the bassinet really didn't work for us, it was perched too high up, he couldn't see us, he was really distressed so wound up having to sleep in our arms. the family next to us had a much older child (more than 1 year), qantas did provide her with a bassinet which she slept in for some parts of the trip and then the remainder in her mum's arms.
call the airline directly and ask. i don't think there's any harm in having a bassinet available for you even if your child is quite big...you might get lucky and your kid is ok sleeping in it.

hi xoxo - just 2 weeks ago I took my 8.5months old baby with me to Toronto and we travelled with Cathay - they offered us the bassinet but it was too small for my baby so we did not use it (just FYI my girl is 25lbs and nearly 80cm tall). I had to hold her the entire flight (nearly 18 hours); tho we were in biz class but it was still hard work. Anyway I was grateful to have a good baby as she didn't cry at all, she ate and slept well and when she was awake she just played happily.
Good luck with the flight!

Hi xox --If it's not too late for you to do so and if $ is not an issue, you might want to consider getting your LO a child seat even though she is only 10 months old.
We traveled to Toronto with our son when he was 6 months old, and even though we were on biz class, having to hold him in my arms for the duration of the trip was no fun for him nor for me. In our subsequent trip to Vancouver when he was barely 1 year old, we decided to fly Economy, but got him his own seat and that had made a lot of difference. That's what we'd been doing since and will continue to do when we fly with #2 in tow when she turns at least 6 months.
You can always put in a request during check-in for the middle aisle (4 seats in a row) and then ask that the seat next to you be blocked off. CX almost always grants this request if the flight is not full. This way, the baby can lie across the seat between you and your hubby. We used blankets and pillows to cushion the sides.
Have a safe and happy flight.
