Hello all,

I am planning to move to Sai Kung and was wondering what thoughts people have on CWB ESF and Renaissance School. Pros, cons and what would be the preferred school for kids 6 - 9 years old. Thankyou.

My son is at CWBS and loves it, my daughter is looking forward to starting in Aug. Ita a pretty good school and has improved a lot in the last few years. The new principle has been there a year now and he's very good, very approachable, very hands on and well liked by both parents and kids. They are switching to the IB so not sure how things will change in the coming year or 2, but that will be the same for all ESF primaries as they are all switching to the PYP of the IB. Maybe you should just go and look at the 2 schools, although that could prove difficult as they have just finished for the holidays, so even if there are some staff there you won't really get a feel of the place without the kids there.

Renaissance is a PIS school. The PIS schools (private independant school) have been set up under an ESF umbrella company called ESF Educational Services. These schools have been set up to generate funds for ESF Schools. To obtain entry into an ESF school the child must be a fluent English Speaker so playground language is English. This rule is not so stringent at PIS schools (Renaissance & soon to be one in Discovery Bay)and playground language is predominently Chinese. Renaissance is IB all the way through. ESF schools will all shortly be PYP and IB at post 16, no IB for Middle Years. The facilities at Renaissance are outstanding, all the teachers are new and are paid less than ESF teachers, ESF schools have proven exam results which are some of the best worldwide, Renaissance being new is still an unknown quantity in regards to exam results.
