Breakage Claim from Relocation Company

Recently relocated here from Europe. Used an international relocation company "supposedly" known for their excellent service.

Anyway, somewhere along the course of the transfer one of our designer nesting tables was broken. Relocation company does not want to pay full cost of replacing the table (even if full insurance coverage was paid) and insists on having it repaired locally! I dont want it repaired because the value of the table will then go down. Moreover, designer table is one of pair of nesting tables that go together along with a matching living room set.

Just wanted to ask what recourse I can take to make them replace my broken table. Should we refer this problem to a lawyer?

When your goods were packed in Europe didn't you enter into an agreement for insurance cover with the company? And wasn't the terms & conditions (including what was and what wasn't covered etc etc) there for you to read? Are you saying that they are going against the terms of the contract? If so then you should firstly point that out to them under threat of putting it in the hands of your solicitor. However, if they are acting within the express terms & conditions of the contract then I don't think there's much you can do in a legal sense. Good luck.

Im going to go over the contract for insurance cover again. But I do know that all items were under a full insurance cover. My husband made sure of that. They are claiming under a clause that they reserve the right to replace or repair the item... or something to that effect. However, the term item is kind of vague because it doesnt make a distinction between designer items and regular items.

Really, if the item was our all glass coffee table (whose designer is already dead), how can they replace or repair it for that matter?

Just didnt expect this relocation company to be so "shoddy". Coincidentally another expat from the same company as my husband had the same bad experience but coming from NY. Apparently, 3 Louis Vuitton bags of his wife got stolen/lost!!

Just want this relocation company not to get offeasy for what they have done and all the inconvenience they have caused us. Is there no consumer report column in a newspaper where I can expose this company?
