Have some time on Saturday and Sunday to volunteer a few hours to support some charity/ . Would like to work with children or elderly, although my cantonese is poor. Any suggestions. Can teach English/help asylum seekers/hospital visits etc.

It might sound odd but make sure that your visa allows you to do even voluntary work for a charity. If you have any sort of visa that prohbits work of any kind then that would include such unpaid charity work. Easy to get the ban removed, though.
