..arrgghhh...
What to do, little sod was walking through our village and I just decided to take him off teh lead for a short while (he's a calm, old spaniel) and off he shot next time I see him (he's running in the bushes, just see flashes of him), well hear something horrible screeching like mad, he's got a wild chicken in his mouth.
What to do?
Prompt replies welcomed, many thanks

Well, this is a story you are sure to tell for years! ( am wondering if someone is going to reply with... the same thing happened to me last year... haha)
Are you sure it is wild and not owned by someone?
If owned by someone, you would want to quickly contact them, explain the situation and offer compensation?
Now in terms of how much, I have NO IDEA the going rate of a live healthy chicken these days!
Also, you want to properly dispose of the chicken - by contacting the correct gov department.

No the chicken is lying dead in the middle of the village, unfortunately it's not reachable on foot as it's in a big sunken well.
I think I'll wait till dark and then try and get it by myself.

saikunga is correct, as of last year chickens cannot be backyard pets. i doubt anyone is going to claim it. and since it is classified as wild, i would call agricultural services, get their advice, and let them handle it.
and don't forget to praise your hunter and gatherer doggie! well done.

Don't! Please don't waste public money by calling the agritulcutre department. This will be like calling the ambulance when you have very mild PMS!

It's okay, got booted up and hacked my way through the bushes and bagged it myself with rubber gloves and a bin bag. Then walked up to the bins on the main road and Bob's yer uncle, job done.
