constipation

Hi, my 20 months old baby is having constipation. Besides prunes and pears can anyone advice how to cure it. She has been eating loads of prunes and pears since about a week now.

papaya definitely helps me to go! and i love the taste too although my 16 month old hates it.

Use whole wheat bread instead of white. Add bran to foods and increase your baby's fluids...water is best. Fewer bananas as they can bung baby up. More exercise.

As long as the stool is sticky and soft like clay or peanut butter it is not considered constipation when a child stools infrequently.

However, if the stool is hard and dry and causes the child distress when passing then I suggest see your family doctor or pediatrician.

Continue to increase fluid intake and fiber.

It's so hot now that fluid is really important! I used to keep mine supplied at all times with a bottle or sippy cup of water -- ice cold or not depending on their preference. The ice cold part adds to the novelty and therefore fun.
