Infringement Scam

ORIGINAL POST

I work in the IT dept for my company and in the past 12 months, we had received on-going # of phone calls claiming they are from the China Government telling us our company's china .cn domain name has been registered by someone else, and they have the authority to re-gain it back for us for a normal registration fee. On several incidences, I checked to see if that was true, and found out it is all a scam, somehow, after a month or so, the registry becomes available after receiving such call... My enquiry is that is there a law in HK against what they are doing, and the dept I should report this to. With actual, these calls were made by a HK Company.

We had the same scammers contact us... if you have time you can get in touch with the ICAC if they are a HK based outfit.

Just beware, the company they claimed to had infringed your rights actually belongs to the same company they operates from, just with a difference name. I believed they are a sole agent for registry in HK, and the fees they charged are a lot higher. I suggest one should approve mainland registry directly if need to register .cn, the cost is almost half price. I believed it is $400/year in china, register with US domain name provider is about $38 USD/yr. The sole agent in HK charges $800 HKD a year. They claimed the difference is service, a bunch of BS, what service?????? Police claimed it is illegal, well, then ICAC should investigate...
