Rupert Murdoch had to change his citizenship because of laws governing foreign ownership of media organisations. Those of us who don't plan on buying him out can can keep dual citizenship.

I believe that if you are an Australian and have an Australian passport, you can apply for whatever other country's passport you like. If you have another passport first, you have to relinquish it before you become an Australian citizen. I guess though, you could then reapply for that other passport later.

I was born in the US and became an Australian citizen when I was about 20 without having to give up my US citizenship (ie I am a dual citizen). There was no problem on the Australian side, the main question was whether the US would allow me to retain my citizenship there. At that time (over 20 years ago now) they had recently changed the wording of the Australian citizenship oath so that it no longer required you to renounce the citizenship of other countries, so I could keep my US citizenship.

I have no idea what the situation is with young children (too young to choose for themselves).
