Is 18 weeks too young to start baby swimming? We've been recommended Harry Wright's infant swimming lessons, has anyone taken his lessons before?

When I called before to inquire, I was told that they would accept only those who've had their 4-month vaccinations. Not sure if they've changed their rules.

I did the Harry Wright's swimming classes when my son 14 months old. He hated the first eight classes and cryed most of the time. I was thinking about giving up when he did a complete turn around. He started to love it and does ever since. He's 2 now, I stopped the classes but he is jumping into the pool and paddling around like a fish (with floaties) ever since. I can only recommend it. One course was enough for me to get to know the basics. I will register him again when is older (3-4 years)

Montana 1, it is my thought also to do one course to get to know the basics. Its good to hear that you recommend Harry's lessons. I'm just wondering if 4 mths is too young to start (he's had all his 4mths vaccinations). Have heard conflicting opinions on infant swimming as some say you should start before they lose their breath holding reflux at 6 mths whilst some say chlorine gases may make them prone to asthama...? I am keen to enroll my baby as he loves playing with water, I just wonder if any moms have done baby swimming at this young age.

My baby girl started her first swimming lesson when she was 6 months old - think in North America and in Europe you can enroll babies in swimming lessons at as young as 6 weeks old - but in Asia I think 5 months and up is more common.

I have enrolled my 5 month old boy for a swimming course at Club Bel-Air, starting this friday.

Germaine WS, I didn't realise Club Bel-Air offered baby swimming. Is it open to non-residents? Would love to hear how your first lesson went!

My prince had his first swimming lesson today! went great! he was not afraid at all and was quite calm throughout the class. The class was not huge, just 2 other babies. But my prince sounded his "I had enough" alarm after 45 mins, the lesson is for an hour. Started with basic kicking, blowing a ball in the water (to start teaching breathing). According to the instructor (a lady), for a baby at the age of 5-6months, it will take 8 lessons before they become familiar. Good fun for daddy and prince!

Germaine WS, sounds like you had a lot of fun with your precious! I think I'll definitely give it a go.
