Broadband speeds

Yesterday I upgraded by PCCW broadband from 8BTU to 18BTU - to be honest I havent really noticed any huge difference in speed.

I ran one of those speed checks from the net and come up with the following results

Download- average (1373), best (2238)

Upload - average (304), best (451)

Latency - 38

Both download & upload speeds were well below the IPS average & HK average...

Are my results in line with 18BTU speeds?

bottlenecks anywhere between your machine and your desired website will slow down everything.

Many things affect ADSL speeds - ISP claims are usually false. Distance between you and the DSLAM (where the carrier is applied) has a great influence.

ISPs also are able to control bandwidth (aka speed) depending on types of traffic. Many slow down Bitorrent file transfers.

ADSL from cable TV varies according to the number of subscribers on-line.
