We suggest mothers wait until breastfeeding is well established at around 4 weeks post partum. Expressing and offering an occasional bottle of expressed breast milk is fine. However, the more bottles given per day increase the risk of breast refusal by your baby. To avoid a mastitis you may still need to feed your baby at night to ensure the breasts do not become engorged and uncomfortable.
