Has anyone mailed back their global refund form to get your Tax-free Shopping Cheque. I have received the tax free Invoice from the shops and wish to mail back for refund cheque. Do i need to have this signed by anyone beforehand i.e. notary, policeman, customs etc? Any assistance would be appreciated.

Do you mean purchases bought in UK and then you are mailing back there for refund? If so yes I have done that. You have to get the form stamped by HM Customs & Excise at airport before you leave - show them the goods and paperwork. Its a nightmare at Heathrow but much easier at Gatwick now that Oasis fly from there. Takes around 6 weeks for credit to appear on your credit card or alternatively you walk through 'airside' and get a cash refund. If you don't have the stamp then I don't think you are going to be able to get the refund now unfortunately. The shops where you bought your goods should have explained all this to you at the time. Good luck.

Kellieja, that's correct what I wanted to do and your answer is quite helpful.

'Onemorething' not sure what you mean by the envelope that came with the check!!?? There were no envelopes supplied.

Since writing I've read more closely the instructions on the back of the 'check from the shop' which says you can have a notary public sign it if not signed by customs - has anyone had this done?

The bigger stores in the UK are geared up for this Duty Free shopping (eg. Harrods, Selfridges) and the Customer Services department that provides the VAT receipt (as opposed to the receipt from the till) normally uses an envelope supplied by the agent who handles the refund. The agent sometimes takes their handling fee too. I know at John Lewis and Selfridges all the paperwork is given back to you in an A5 size pre-paid envelope which is what I presume 'Onemorething' is referring to. Seem to remember agent is called Global Tax something or other.

Did not know about Notary Public being an alternative but check out cost first will not be cheap in HK!
