Hi...Anyone with any idea or tried bringing frozen expressed breast milk (EBM) overseas? I am going to Singapore and has stocked up plenty of frozen EBM. The journey all in all will be around 12 hours or so. How to transport them and keep frozen all the way?

I did this.

But it was BEFORE the new regulations... so not sure about now.

I had a 'freezer to go' bag - filled with more 'ice' and bags of milk and frozen homemade food. The air attendants were great and even gave me more dry ice to put in the bag and kept the bag in a cool box for me.

Worked great all the way to UK and back.

Depending on how much you have and how urgent this is and how much you want to spend, you could also talk to shipping companies about temperature controlled shipping - the companies that ship frozen food or medical supplies.

You should talk to the airline representative. The security restrictions will depend on the country, but I think it's likely you'll need at least a medical note to get it through.

Perhaps I misunderstand but why can't you just breastfeed on the plane and while you are there?? I've done it plenty of times and the flight attendants are really good about it. I admit it's not the most private environment but there are ways of being discreet. Esp good for take off and landing where the baby's ears could be a problem.

Just a thought..

Hi Sammy, I will breastfeed on plane. It's just that i've now have plenty stock up in freezer and want to bring all of them to singapore (rather than throw away. What a waste!!). To bring over to singapore, i must make sure they remain frozen. otherwise, once thaw, i need to use them up within 48 hours (and there's just too many to be drank within 48 hours)!

Cri, when you bring to UK, does the EBM remain frozen? do you then put back to freezer and consume much later (say 1-2 months later?)? when can one buy the 'freezer to go' bag? I've haven't hear of that before.

meiguoren, yes..i think i will call singapore airline to check! but i've heard that there is liquid restriction for to and fro australia flight. sigh... thx

Hi woonwoonbee, if you throw it away, don't feel bad. Most likely there are a lot of us who froze bmilk we didn't need and ended up throwing it away. By the time I had my third baby, I didn't bother freezing any at all.
