Too confused about internet and broadband TV in HK

Hello everybody,


We arrived a couple of months ago and our experience PCCW services have not been a smooth one. One of the biggest problems we face is the fact that we have HBO package which has a separate modem and decoder than the Now TV and it shares the modem with the broadband internet. It is not possible to use the internet in the study as it requires a very long cable to connect to the living room. We are told we better buy wireless router and lynksis 108 was recommended. We have only one laptop at home and would like to set it up in the study:


Is wireless the only option (except putting a long line of cable)?


Is the brand recommended good one and

Where is the best place to buy it without being conned (had a bad experience in HK with electronic a few years back while visiting)

It's either wired or wireless. Of cos wireless wld be more advisable to u since its far apart between ur study room and modem. Am planning to do that myself too. You can get it from Wanchai Computer Centre...and Linksys is not too bad...another choice is Buffalo. Am sure there is other brands, but am using those 2 currently and so far so good.

I think she meant, 1 modem and 1 decoder. I have the same thing too. A phone line to the modem, and 2 separate cables, 1 to the decoder for NowTV and 1 to your PC/Laptop for internet.

Dear All,


Thanks for the comments and info so far.


I have two modems and two decoders


Modem 1 and Decoder 1- Now TV which has all the channels except HBO


Modem 2 and Decoder 2- HBO Package and this modem is shared by the internet


All of the services are through PCCW. Are we the only people who have two modems? Is there something wrong?

Thats really something new! Am only using 1 set of it. And i've recently added some new package and they just update my account. That's abt it. Why need 2 sets for the same thing? Think u better call NowTV to straighten this out. All they need to do is update ur decoder unless ur having it at different locations, 1 set in room, 1 set in living room?

They are all in the same location. I think I need to get on the case. It seemed very strange since the beginning but now confirmed with these comments.
