Sorry I had to post another thread to reply to the replies to my ealier post as the internet here is very bad and cannot upload my reply.
Thanks all. My husband talked to the relatives here and supported my policy on the baby's routine. It was good. Although people disagree, at least we are on the same page and people stopped making much comment. Actually, two cousins of my husband discussed the way to work around it and we will have a small BBQ party at our place in the terrace so the baby can sleep and we can have time together (smoke free). Our time in Greece is coming to an end soon, and we will spend some time at my mother's in Japan (much releaf for me). HKCC-that sounds like an interesting research. if the hormon is released according to the daylight, maybe it would be ok to send kids to bed leater as the day is so long here??? Anyway, it seems that the concensus here is as long as they get enough sleep altogether, then time to go to bed can be flexible to certain degree. Crj, thanks, your post made me feel much better... Sorry, I haven't been upto date with all the happenings to you. Hope everything is well with you and your baby as well!!!

MM,
great to know your husband is supportive - i think that always helps if your husband is on your side vs relatives when it comes to issues like this. we can't blame relatives for wanting to see you, husband and baby, after all they only mean well but it's important you take a stand on things.
i have relatives in singapore and i have to say for my baby's 1st year, i was very strict - we didn't really participate in evening gatherings because we don't have a regular babysitter and i wanted my son to sleep well. and before he turned one, staying up too late would make him overtired and cranky. but since he turned one, i have relaxed alot more and also because he seems to enjoy the attention he gets from people in the evening and is not whining in a corner being tired, as he would have been before. so i have come to a compromise and we go out in the evenings on weekends but i still aim to have him in bed by 8pm, 9pm the absolute latest. it helps that if he had a late bedtime, he makes up for the it in the next few days. so now we all enjoy ourselves and try to make as much of it as we can as come next jan 08 when the #2 arrives, we'll be back on the same strict routine again!
enjoy the rest of your time in greece!
